A New Experience

Primary Source: This picture is my primary source, Seoul, South Korea. This is when I travelled from Australia to South Korea because of my dad's work. At the year of 2011, early February was when I started to live in Korea for the time being.

Description of the event: When I first moved to Korea I lived in around Insa-dong. After seeing such weird characters of Korean I was already noticing that I am going to have a hard time trying to fit in. Not many people spoke english. Random ah-jumma's would walk up to me in the street and say something in Korean which I did not even understand and hand me this paper, but obviously she was advertising from what I could examine.

Recount of event: When I first attended Korean International School was at the end of grade 7. My parents thought it would be a good idea for me to get in as early as I could into the school so I could make some friends so that I wouldn't be lonely in the summer break. It was surprising to me that there were very, very few foreigners in KIS. It was mostly just people who were born in Korea but lived in the America while growing up. On my first day of school I quickly made friends. The teacher was kind enough to help me get my way around school by assigning a fellow classmate to assist me. So much happened on my first day of school and I was astounded. Later on I began to fit in and make close friends to hang around with.

Significance: From what I have experienced in Korea it was different from other countries that I have lived in. From what my dad tells me at work, people are very arrogant. My dad is quite young and his colleagues are older than he is. They do not think that he has the qualifications to make this company into better shape. I think wrong because why else would the company call my dad over to come to Korea if there wasn't such a crisis that needed to be solved by experts. After hearing this from my dad I fear that something similar would happen to me later on in life, maybe like getting bullied. I thought to myself that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to come to Korea, he could've just accepted an offer from country.

Interviewing myself:

What did you think of Korea when you first saw in from the flight? I think that Korea was a very beautiful place. The architecture was amazing. I also noticed that Korea was very fast in constructing.

Has anything bad happened to you during your stay in Korea? No, not really. Everything is okay for the time being. But who knows what could happen later on.

Do you like Korea? The answer to that is no. It's mostly because of the people. Korea is the top country in the world which have the highest range on people who smoke. Every time where I walk there is mostly people smoking. I find it very uncomfortable.

Has anything significant happened to you in Korea? I haven't achieved anything in Korea.
